Our Broker

Carl Henkel was born and raised right here in the South Bay. He attended Riviera Elementary, Newton (now Richardson) Middle, and South High School before graduating from Mira Costa High School. He played volleyball at a high enough level in high school that he was awarded a scholarship to play at UCLA. While there, he won one National Championship (1989), Captained the team in his Senior Season (1991), and earned All-American Status. He graduated from UCLA in four years with a major in Economics and a minor in Political Science.

After graduation, he began a career as a professional athlete. He spent some time with the US National Team, played professionally indoor in Belgium and became a beach professional. In the meantime, he continued his education attending Law School at Whittier in 1994 and 1995. In 1996, he represented the USA at the 1996 Olympic Games finishing in fifth place with his partner Sinjin Smith. He finished the Games as the #1 ranked player in side-out efficiency and #2 in blocks per game in Atlanta. In 1997, Carl went back to Law School for his final year and graduated from Whittier. In 1998-1999, Carl attended the University of San Diego’s Master of Law’s program and earned his LLM in 1999. After graduation from Law School, he continued to play Beach Volleyball Professionally and earned the right to be a backup at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. At the end of 2000, Carl finally had the time to stop playing volleyball long enough (thanks to shoulder surgery) to study for the bar exam. He passed it on his first try. Carl ended his playing career in 2003 after years of nagging pain in his neck and shoulder.

Along with his father and mother, Carl began to build an apartment portfolio in 1997. From 1997 to 2003, the three acquired a small portfolio that Carl still owns and manages to this day. In 2004, Carl became a licensed real estate agent in California and began helping others achieve their goals. He is driven to provide fist class service to every client.

Brett Egan

Raised in South Torrance, Brett currently resides in the Hollywood Riviera with his wife Becky, son Jake, twin daughters Tory & Reese, and dogs Vincent & Izzy.  Brett loves living in the Hollywood Riviera because beaches and parks are easily accessible, the weather is fantastic, good restaurants and entertainment options are nearby in the Riviera Village, and the schools are excellent. After graduating from South High School Brett went to San Diego State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and shortly thereafter he obtained his Master’s degree from Dominguez Hills.

Brett provides superior customer service to his clients.  His strengths are his tireless work ethic, his local knowledge, and his passion to work with clients to make their dreams of finding the perfect home a reality.  He will not stop working for his clients until their interests are met.  Brett’s philosophy is that he is here to inform and advise his clients, using his expertise, to assist them when buying or selling a home.  Brett makes a real estate transaction as pleasant and hassle-free as possible.

Josh Mendel

Josh was born and raised in upstate New York and transplanted out to the sunny coast of CA in the early 90’s. When he came out for summer break from Cornell University to visit his older brother in Manhattan Beach, he fell in love with the beaches, temperate weather, and a local girl who is currently his wife of 18 years and never went back! Josh graduated with a degree in mathematics from UCLA and has worked in both systems engineering and real estate financial markets for over two decades.

Currently he resides in the Lunada Bay area of Palos Verdes Estates with his family of four. When not assisting clients, he can be found reliving his college tennis team days hitting balls with his two sons and playing in men’s matches around the South Bay. Josh is very active in the community as well as his boys’ schools. He particularly enjoys helping the PV High School technology department and mentoring the Robotics team.

Josh takes a genuine interest in his clients and their needs. He takes great pleasure in applying his quantitative skills and extensive knowledge of the South Bay to help his clients achieve their real estate goals.
